Our guiding principles at ICDSA

Discover the core values that define the Interfaith Council for Dialogue, Service, and Advocacy (ICDSA). These principles shape our mission, drive our actions, and foster genuine connection across all faith traditions.

Our distinct approach to interfaith engagement

The Interfaith Council for Dialogue, Service, and Advocacy (ICDSA) stands apart by prioritizing relational dialogue. We believe lasting understanding grows through sustained, ethical conversations grounded in lived experience. One-to-one discussions and personal storytelling foster empathy, reduce bias, and build trust across differences. ICDSA honors the dignity of every individual and the integrity of every faith tradition, explicitly avoiding proselytization, coercion, and judgment to create safe spaces for honest and authentic participation. Additionally, we emphasize learning, presence, and hospitality, visiting places of worship, sharing traditions, and expanding religious literacy to deepen understanding, dispel misconceptions, and cultivate mutual respect.

Why these values matter to ICDSA

Each of our values is significant because we believe communities are stronger when people know one another, care for one another, and stand together across differences. Through dialogue, learning, service, advocacy, and shared leadership, ICDSA affirms that we are truly better together. These principles are not just ideals; they are the foundation upon which we build resilient, inclusive, and engaged communities, transforming polarization into cooperation and understanding.

Putting our values into action

ICDSA is built on inclusive leadership and shared ownership. Individuals are invited to participate in shaping the initiative by serving on the board, joining planning teams, helping develop dialogue topics, and supporting service and advocacy projects. Diverse leadership strengthens decision-making, innovation, and organizational resilience. Community members can also get involved by inviting others from their faith communities to attend the ICDSA Convention, helping welcome participants and support activities, participating in dialogue sessions, service projects, or advocacy efforts throughout the year, and sharing feedback and ideas. Through participation at many levels—whether planning, attending, inviting, or serving—ICDSA fosters a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility.

Our commitment to these values influences the community by fostering unity.

The ICDSA Convention serves as a unifying platform for interfaith cooperation throughout the year. It brings together individuals and communities across faith traditions to strengthen relationships, highlight service and advocacy opportunities, engage civic leaders, and establish a shared vision for ongoing collaboration beyond the event itself. The convention also features service and advocacy booths, cultural presentations by host faith communities, and opportunities to connect with broader interfaith networks—inviting participants to remain engaged long after the day concludes.
