Building bridges of understanding
The Interfaith Council for Dialogue, Service, and Advocacy (ICDSA) fosters meaningful relationships and encourages respectful dialogue across faith traditions. We mobilize collaborative service and advocacy for the common good, cultivating empathy, trust, and shared responsibility within communities.
Our story
ICDSA began with a simple yet profound idea: to create a space where people of all faiths could come together, not just to tolerate each other, but to truly understand and collaborate. From our humble beginnings in central New Jersey, we have grown into a vibrant community dedicated to fostering peace and cooperation. Our journey is one of shared learning, mutual respect, and a steadfast commitment to making a positive difference in the world.
Our vision
ICDSA envisions communities where people of diverse faiths and worldviews know one another as neighbors, value religious and cultural diversity as a collective strength, and work together to address shared challenges. In this vision, dialogue leads to understanding, relationships lead to action, and cooperation across differences fosters resilient, inclusive, and engaged communities.
Our core values
Relational dialogue
We believe lasting understanding grows from authentic relationships built on trust and mutual respect. Our approach emphasizes personal narratives and shared experiences over abstract theology, fostering genuine connection. Through relational dialogue, we aim to bridge divides and cultivate a sense of common humanity.
Inclusive engagement: We actively seek out and welcome people from all faith traditions and worldviews, ensuring diverse voices are heard and valued. Our programs are designed to be accessible and relevant to everyone, creating an environment where all feel safe and respected.
Service and advocacy: Our commitment extends beyond dialogue. We mobilize individuals and communities to collaborate on service projects and advocate for social justice, addressing shared challenges and working towards the common good. We believe faith calls us to action.
Empathy and compassion: We encourage a deep understanding of others' perspectives and experiences, fostering compassion and moving beyond stereotypes. Empathy is at the heart of our work, enabling us to connect on a human level and build stronger bonds.
Humility and learning: We approach every interaction with an open mind, recognizing that we all have something to learn from one another. We are committed to continuous growth, adapting our methods and understanding as we engage with diverse communities.
Shared responsibility: We believe that creating inclusive and just communities is a collective endeavor. We encourage individuals and institutions to take ownership of this shared responsibility, working together to build a more harmonious society.
